Specialising in English as a Second Language (ESL) enables me to cater to three sectors:

Editing

This is the service of taking your writing- in almost any form- and crafting it into a publishable piece. I ask you lots of questions so I can ascertain your voice and the message you want to convey. Having taught English for years has given me a unique insight into the editing needs of second language learners and my it puts my fastidious red pen into overdrive.

Writing

Many people know what they want to say but don’t know how to write it; this is even more common in the ESL industry where language barriers add a greater challenge. Some know what they want to say, know how to write but simply don’t have the time. Writing content, or ghost-writing, for other people takes attention to detail. It’s important to know a client well, understand their needs and the message they need for their business. This is where my observation and research skills are best utilised when I write the content you need.

Tutoring

With today’s technology at hand I am available to help you personally with one-on-one tutoring via skype or in written form through email. I begin by first learning why you need my help and what your learning goal is. It’s not enough to tell me, ‘I want to speak better English.’ Better English is not a clear and specific goal. Do you want to speak or write better for a language test like IELTS? Or so you can communicate more effectively in your employment? I will help you to understand what you need and together we will set language targets so you can not just see results but experience them.

Qualifications

With a BA in Media and Communications, years of diverse corporate administration employment and more than three years of ESL teaching and teacher training behind me I know the difference between subjunctive and infinitive verbs, I understand communicative mediums- online and off, and I can empathise with how hard it is to learn a language (I’ve studied Mandarin Chinese and Khmer) or improve your writing/ editing skills.

The difference between me and other experts in this industry is that I am real. I don’t pretend to know everything, in fact, I believe one (unsubstantiated) reason for Alzheimer’s disease is that people give up learning. I hope that when I’m 105 years old I’m still learning something new every day. I’m not going to fake my way into your good books. I work hard, I’m thorough and I pay attention to the needs of my clients. It’s that easy.
