About

I am Caron Margarete. I am a writer, a freelance English editor, an ESL teacher, a couchsurfer, a learner, a listener, an observer, and a social commentator. I come complete with a splash of sassy, a pinch & a punch, a no-rhyme-with-irregular-reason intelligence and odd optimism.

From Whoa to Go was born from the idea that I could literally go from whoa – the scary part of starting something new and challenging – to go – the action of completing the goal!

My goal is to continue to travel the world and work to make my income as independent of the location as possible.

I left Australia in late June 2007 and since have travelled Thailand twice, Singapore city, Seoul, South Korea and have lived in Milwaukee, USA; Calgary, Invermere and Halifax, Canada; and, Harbin, northern China. I now live in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and run a freelance writing and editing business, From Whoa to Go Editing while also teaching English and teacher training at a local school.

On From Whoa to Go you’ll read posts about the ESL industry for the teacher and for the learner, you’ll learn about life as a foundation traveller and you’ll learn how I am working to build my location independent freelance business.

It’s a mixed bag of knowledge because I’m a mixed bag of interests.

Foundation Travelling

  • How to become a foundation traveller.
  • Hands-on insight into the places I live, not from the tourist lens but from the reality of life in another country, which is never what it seems.
  • Tricks and hints for the present location I’m in.

Location Independence Freelance Business

Building an online profile and business is not easy. Life gets in the way. For a foundation traveller building a business in foreign countries is even harder thanks to limited resources, finances and time availability. Trying to make that business as independent of the location as possible provides new challenges daily.

Talking about what I’m achieving makes it more possible because it makes me accountable and it teaches others how to hone in on their skills and achieve location independence too.

ESL Teachers

Most ESL certificate training is inadequate in providing teachers with ongoing support while they begin their teaching careers. I provide techniques and methods, games and activities to use in your classrooms that will help the ESL teacher understand their second language students better.

Coming soon is a free ebook, The Games Book, that compiles many useful games according to their learning component and The Easy Grammar book that includes games and tips to make teaching grammar super simple!

ESL Learners

It’s challenging to stay motivated while learning another language so I provide ways the learner can make their studies easier and more fun.

Coming soon is a series of videos demonstrating how to correctly pronounce English sounds, like th, ch, or those tricky final sounds t & s.

Enjoy!
